NBCU Figma Plguin
Plugin to generate UI patterns using the enterprise design system and AI

My Role
Repurpose our web-based design system components to design the plugin interface
Collaborated with ux engineers to build the plugin
Reset github actions to publish plugin to figma
Debug errors in typescript to maintain the plugin
Time
3 months, 1 designer, 2 devs
Deliverables
Plugin UI
Maintaining codebase
Other plugin artifacts
Measuring success
Product owners can easily generate their concepts
Increasing # of early adopters using mixpanel
Decreasing # of bug related crashes
Primary insight
Our design team of eight works across an org with over 400 products, and supports a high volume of small UI change requests
We needed a way to redirect some of them to self-service to use a designer's time wisely

how might we
… enable a non-designers to create small design artifacts without seeking out a designer?
so that the designers could work on bigger, more valuable projects to the org
Here's a demo of the plugin recorded by the UX engineer working with me to build (not the most recent version)
I created an accordion view to mimic the Chipotle step-by-step ordering scenario

Here's a more simplified view
Which resulted in a different iterations of a categorical palette

How this project helped me grow as a designer?
Thanks for skimming all the way to the end — here are some outcomes and learnings!
Learnings
I learned how to fix stuff when things were breaking in production
Also, also to showcase my work and get feedback
Outcomes
We tracked activity and usage through mixpanel
This increased out design system patterns usage as indicated by the Figma API
